Blog Sale Amidst Random Thoughts

Confession time:  Nothing has become my new favorite thing to do.  I'm pretty sure I've worked my way to a silver medal in doing nothing and I've only been practicing for about a week.  Here's the downside:  when you're doing nothing you run the risk of not wanting to return to le work.  I've successfully managed to tell myself enough lies for the past 3 days regarding why it is I don't need to walk around the corner and down the stairs to get the mail out of the slot where the bills aka reality might be.  Well, that and every time I survey the carpeted stairs they are just a little more shredded up by my cats who, if you remember, are waging war on carpets.  Avoidance is the new black. Today I was coerced by the UPS man who, seeing my front deck door open, whistled until I was forced to admit I was home to retrieve the package.  Whew moment occurred when there was a paycheck in the mailbox vs. just a bill. Victory is mine!!

Next week I'll get back to being productive, but for at least the next two days doing nothing reigns supreme.  You should totally give it a try sometime.  Especially you overachievers--it takes a few days to get into it, but once you're there it's really quite an unparalleled experience.

I guess I can't say I've done absolutely nothing because I'm (still) cleaning out the closets.  Before listing anything on eBay I thought I'd toss it up here to see if anyone's interested.  All the stuff is in epic shape.  It'll be first come, first serve so just send me a note to carrieonnn@gmail.com if you're interested/have questions and we can PayPal.

I wear mine with skinnies and suede knee high boots--especially great in fall.

I'm still going through things and have more to add next week, but wanted to start clearing out some of my faves off the top.  You know, before I decide I need to keep them.  Send help.

On that note I can't wait to tell you what I saw at the grocery store last night.  People have lost their damn minds is all I have to say.  It's amazing how when you slow down you notice so many more things, right?  I'm not sure this is a good thing or a bad thing though...In any event it's the weekend.  Let's raise our glasses in a toast to summery sunshiny days!  May they go on forever (or at least through October).

Take Me To A Desert Place

This weekend was filled with wind, rain, wind and more rain mixed with the occasional pounding of hail.  It's hard to believe that only one week ago I was in Palm Springs (yes I'm still harping on that) enjoying 86 degrees well into the evening.  In order to avoid slipping into a major depression due to gloomy weather, broken heater, and derelict landlord I basked in the glow of photos from last weekend when I wore a maxi skirt I recently picked up at Anthropologie.

I've never really seen myself as a maxi skirt person and would like to take this moment to thank Carey from Corks & Caftans for what I think may become an addiction.  At first I felt as though I'd conjured up Laura, Mary and Ma Ingalls all in one, but once I hit the desert it was straight up Dances with Wolves (or as my friend Andy would say - Dances with Wool- when blanket is present.) only I opted to pull on a long ribbed tank over top to mix it up.  Suffice it to say a fave new outfit has been born.

Blanket and I wanted to build a fire.  We're considering relo to a tee pee.
~Winter Kate-Gypsy Rose Vest, James Perse-Ribbed Tank Dress, Odille-Maxi Skirt~
Can we take a moment to discuss this vest?  I've been stalking it since last year and
picked it up on sale just after Christmas.  Remember I first mentioned it here?
When I opened the package and swung it over my t-shirt and sweats it was game over.
I may or may not have even worn it to bed once.  Okay maybe twice.
True Love
~Brandy and Melville-Fringe Bag (seen here and here), Motif56 and PANYC-Bracelets,
Melinda Maria-Link Oxidized Ring, Nordstrom-Green Ring, Anthropologie-Belt~
Details on skirt = magic.  I can't stop wearing it around the house.
Head over to Facebook to catch more pictures of blanket from this post -
all taken in Hipstamatic and totally ridic.

Anyway here's to brighter and warmer days ahead.  My heat's back on just in time for the work week, and Blanket is on standby.  Friday are you out there?

Resurrection: Tucker in Summery Fall

First - to anyone who cannot view my pictures I just don't know what to tell you.  I've not changed any settings (I don't even know what that means) and I put a question up at the blogger/google forum so someone there said they're looking into it.  I've had 5 or 6 of you report you can't see the pictures and it makes me sad!  Click on each one and it will blow up in a separate window.  Other than that I'm stumped!

Okay.  Now I'm so curious as to what your weather is like right now.  Is anyone else having crazy weather?  It was 95 degrees yesterday in SoCal.  (In fact as I type this it's still 80 degrees and it's almost 10pm.)  Now this is not entirely uncustomary for this time of year, however after the very cool spring and summer we experienced I really did expect to see the outline of a true fall season.  Well scrap that idea.  And scrap trying to put together an outfit post in this weather, too.  Fur?  Uh no, that's not hap'ning! (said like Kelly aka Liam Sullivan).  I seriously think I might have had a hot flash in the afternoon while trying to don a pair of jeans!!  I don't want to leave my fur behind!

All I could think about was ice cream, weeeeeeekend, ice cream, weeeeeekend, ice cream.  Is it the weekend??  The heat's gone to my head.  Or has it?

This is how fast the week went by for me.
And now may the weekend slow down just a tad.  Or ten.
Tucker vest (seen here), J.Crew skinny denim, Tucker tote (gift)
Oh.  And tore up hair because it's too hot for me to care.
Veiny hands (thanks for nothing heat), Nordstrom Ring, Sponge Bob Band-Aid
While grabbing for the razor I almost sliced the tip of my thumb off.
Friday?  You out there?
Oh!! Jadetribe bracelet (I'll wear it again to give a better pic),
and Tucker silk tote close-up, too.
J.Crew flats purchased 2 or 3 years ago on major sale (scour ladies, scour!!) and
resurrected during closet dive 2010.  It's a jungle in there!

And now let us walk off into that good weekend.

Any special plans for you over the next couple days?  We have some friend stuff to tend to, some potential birthday shenanigans and some house cleaning (yawwwwwn) mayhem to take care of.  May it not be aggravated!!  Remember that one?? Yikes!  Have a great one, everyone!

You Can Ring My Bell (Bottoms)

When I think of bell bottoms my mind immediately fills with images of Farrah Fawcett in a form fitting track jacket a little more than half-zipped up and slightly high-waisted bell bottom denim with cute sneakers peeking out from beneath.  Suddenly a new image pops up with her in a blousy peasant top tucked into the waist of her bell bottoms - I can't see her shoes because the bells cover them perfectly but I sense they are wedges.  Then I'm blinded by her amazing feathered hair and bright contagious smile and I'm back in Charlie's Angels land...sigh.

But back to this post.

I'm a huge fan of bell bottoms - they take me back to my wee days when my way older and very fashionable teenage cousins were prancing around with the extreme bells and patchwork suede bags, while posters of the Bay City Rollers took up every square inch of their bedroom walls.  *I was "allowed" in those sacred places if I didn't touch too much or tell my mom anything I overheard, and they would paint my finger nails and give me their leftover junk to take home which was well-worth the rules!*  For months I have had been waiting to find just the right pair for me.  J Brand's Lovestory bell bottoms called out, but upon closer examination I didn't love the wide hem at bottom.  One day before wallet restriction set in I strolled into my neighborhood Gap and stumbled upon their Vintage Flare Jeans.  My trip to the fitting room was filled with jumping up and down and maybe a shriek or two because they are made from a super soft denim with just the right amount of stretch, have a normal hem at bottom and fit perfectly - snug in the leg to the knee and then moving into a nice bell landing just over my shoes at bottom allowing for the perfect bit of swish when I walk on by!

Despite the fact that it was 108 degrees at noon this past Sunday, we opted to go ahead with these outfit pictures.  Hence no necklace or bangles because they may have melted right onto my skin.  It was insanity!

I had fully intended to wear the jeans with my own track jacket
and sneakers, but 100+ temps = no dice.
Instead I opted for this peasant inspired linen tank. The print on
the top coupled with it's billowy flow gave it just the
right amount of boho-chic.
My cousin's patchwork suede hand-me-down bag is long gone.
aka massive loss.  (moment of silence please *sniff*)
Instead let's focus on how the denim fits snugly to the knee
before flaring over the shoe.
Here's a close-up.  When I walk the denim maintains the perfect length
showing just a hint of, in this case, my cloxfords (previously seen here).
This gives another example of the leg of the denim which easily
rests just over the tip of the shoe in ultimate bell bottom perfection.
These jeans are not high-waisted, but still maintain the overall
effect.  That being said, it would be great to find
a vintage pair that could showcase a high waist and a crazy belt
with a flowy top tucked in.  Le dream!

How about you ladies?  Are you a fan of the bell bottom or are some things better left in the past?
