Breaking All The Rules

Have you seen everyone's winter white challenge posts the past couple days?  Holy mother of pearl they've been off the hook!  Even though I've been hanging off the couch viewing through the veil of delirium it hasn't masked the awesomeness.  Nerd alert:  I love sharing ideas.

I also really appreciate all the kind words and well wishes you've left here.  This plague (thanks Anna) has left me knocked flat out and absent for most of the past couple days.  Yesterday I asked if it was Wednesday...er, not so much.  The Chef's been stopping by to make sure I've still got plenty of dark chocolate, pink grapefruit and broth aka my daily bread and all I seem to be able to eat.  At times like these I realize how lucky I am to have someone who cares about participating in my day to day - every day.

Like a couple of weeks ago when we went to the flea market
and the 85yr old guy at the Native American head dress booth
- who was wearing white sweat socks on his hands just because -
wouldn't sell me the head dress unless I
agreed to also buy the chaps and "pistolis" - wait for it -
...to go with the coordinating cowboy outfit.  Um, no?

What is a pistoli you ask?  A kid's plastic cap gun.  Actually a pair of them.  In between trying not to collapse over sock hands and the feather head dress I'd thrown on in effort to make my best plea (i mean really can you just imagine the outfit posts??  don't worry i haven't given up...), the Chef began bartering with the guy trying to talk pistoli.  At which time he accidentally shot off a cap and I had to fake bending down to tie my flip flop in order not to completely lose it.

White sweat socks on hands are also a faux pas fashion statement to be explored.  Perhaps we should do that challenge next...thoughts?

Bringin' the white denim action today we have:

Here's hoping I can somehow get mobile, bathe and get outside to have my post ready for Thursday.  Dancing on the edge yet again.  Argh

To Warmer Days Ahead

Well girls today is the beginning of the White Denim in Winter Challenge and it would only figure that I'm seriously under the weather with a cold.  I spent Friday night trying to convince myself that I didn't have a sore throat, only to wake up on the couch Saturday morning barely able to swallow.  Tall tales to self continued well into the evening where reality set in:  someone else would be singing Maneater at a local hang out while I sipped hot tea through a straw.

There is no justice in this wicked world.

I am so looking forward to seeing how everyone styled their whites today.  I'll join in on Thursday as the whitest thing I have to offer right now is my dastardly pale skin.  Here's who's up:

Everyone posts at different times so you might need to visit more than once, but I've already seen Lyddie's and she sent me into tears.  Gorgeous!  Speaking of tears does anyone else cry when they're sick?  I spent Saturday night shivering and weeping away to The Holiday.  Oh Jude Law.  Oh Kate Winslet.  Oh romance.

On that note I leave you with a glimpse into today's outing with the Chef.  Long live boyfriends who don't give a rip about the Super Bowl and running around with plastic cheese on their head while the neighbors get ripped out on pot, screaming and hollering their heads off, using baseball terminology to describe football.  True story.

White Out

I know what you're all thinking, "That hooker's wearing a bun, no jacket and white pants in January."  And you would be correct - except I'm not a hooker, but endless blizzards bring out the worst in the very best of us.  Free Pass.  With this post I come offering motivation to anyone who is on the fence about the White Denim in Winter Challenge that will be going on next week.  At the last minute yesterday aft I threw together a quick outfit to bear witness to the fact that white is totally relevant at this time of year.

Pause:  Did you happen to catch Kara's post over at Sprinkles in Springs yesterday?  She's featuring me as her Blogger of the Month for February, and blew me away with the post.  Please check it out if you get the chance.  Her artwork is extraordinary!

I digress.  I've sent emails to everyone who expressed interest in putting on their white, and the tentative schedule will be listed at the end of this post.  Please let me know via email if you need to amend, have changed your  mind (noooooooo) or would like to be added (yes!!!).  And now today's outfit:  bearing in mind that some of you are up to your necks in snow, I remind you that this is my California look.  Next week I'll sport a warmer version that could easily be worn in colder parts of the country.

Swedish Hasbeens-Loafers, Free People Necklace, Anthro Sunnies
Free People Necklace + Sun at 5pm as wind picks up.
Daredevil Carrie sits on sandy stairs in white denim.
Swedish Hasbeens are some of my fave shoes...
H&M Collaboration is coming soon.  You will love!
Suddenly I feel like I need a chunky necklace to cap this off...

Okay so are you off the fence yet? All you have to do is an outfit post in white denim on your date listed below.  I think it would be great if you included the other people who are posting on your day so readers can compare/contrast, but I'll leave that up to you.

For everyone who has expressed interest here's the schedule so far, but there's always room for more!

Thus ends the longest post in the history of this free bird and if you follow me you know that's saying a lot.  I'll leave you now as I go off to tone my upper legs and behind.  White denim has brought home a few of the finer points I've been desperately trying to avoid.  On that note I have a killer dessert post for tomorrow.  Bring bib.

White Denim in Winter Challenge

In late September I came across one of Jennine's posts on Eat, Sleep, Denim about wearing White Denim after Labor Day.  I'm always interested to hear and see what Jennine has to say on a subject and was so relieved to hear that she is down with white denim post the long weekend in September.  Who came up with that rule anyway?

I'd been meaning to do a post on it even prior to hearing her thoughts, but somehow haven't accomplished it yet (imagine that *cough cough*). Then the other day I was chatting with Daniela over at D, Etcetera on the very subject and asked if she wanted to do a joint white denim post...then tonight in the shower (I swear the best ideas come when warm water is beating down on my head or just as I'm nodding off to sleep) I got the idea to offer up a White Denim in Winter Challenge.

So here's what I'm thinking - let me know how many of you would be interested in doing an outfit post in white denim right now in the dead of winter.  Depending on how many people want to throw in we can schedule the posts all on one day or stagger them over a couple or few in order to see how different people are styling their looks.  Girls you know I love a pair of white denim - remember this post from waaaaay back in the day??

Anyway - now it's winter so I have a different pair to pull out and wear an entirely different way.  I think this could be a really cool post/set of posts!! So many of you are standing up to your knees in snow drifts while others of us are in sun or partial frost or even experiencing summer in Australia...white denim in winter can be just gorgeous and I think it would be so fun to see the different ways we can keep them relevant in the off season.

Let me know what you think and if you'd like to join in by leaving a note in the comments.  We could coordinate and do the posts beginning after next week (date tbd early next week depending on response) in order to give people time to get their pictures taken and posts completed.  I would be happy to post the schedule here of who is posting whether it's on one day or over a couple, so that each person's blog gets visited.  In the off chance you think I'm nuts - then Daniela and I will be a party of two in our winter whites, but I do hope you'll consider.

And now I say to you...it is weekend time.  Let the joyous events of free time commence!  I'm off to a wedding on the beach this weekend and hoping to find something suitable to wear while sporting the remnants of a sore throat.  Dear Christian Louboutin....
